When you plan your holiday or travel arrangements it is important to choose your holiday travel insurance with care. Many travel insurance policies do not give cover for adventurous or hazardous sports and it is frequent for holiday insurance not to cover working whilst travelling.

Navigator Travel Insurance offers two online travel insurance policies that cover working and many sports and hazardous activities. Our Voyager travel insurance gives high quality cover, giving insurance for travel and working, with a reasonable selection of sports covered. The Navigator travel insurance policy, whilst aimed primarily at backpackers and gap year or student travel, still offers quality insurance cover, with a wide variety of the more hazardous sports covered. The choice of holiday insurance is all too often given insufficient consideration and many holiday makers travel each year with holiday travel insurance that is not suitable for the activities that they are undertaking. Read the travel insurance policy wording documents very carefully and if in doubt, contact the travel insurance provider for clarification. There are several popular activities for holiday travel that it is difficult to find suitable travel insurance cover for. Travel or touring by motorcycle is becoming increasingly popular, but most holiday and travel insurance policies either do not cover it, or they restrict you to small mopeds or motorcycles. Both the Voyager holiday insurance and the Navigator travel insurance cover motorcycling, with no restriction on the size of the bike, as long as you hold a full UK license for it, and always wear crash helmets. Please note that travel insurance does not cover the bike or third party liability claims, which should be covered by the bike insurance.

A common mistake when selecting a travel insurance for long stay travel, is to buy an Annual Multi-Trip holiday insurance policy. Because these travel insurance policies are advertised as “annual holiday insurance” it is assumed that they would give insurance cover for a long stay trip, such as a gap year holiday. In reality, whilst they will give insurance cover for many trips, there is an individual trip duration limit, often as low as 31 days. The travel insurance is invalidated if your trip is longer than this duration. For holidays like this, you need a Long Stay travel insurance, and both the Voyager holiday insurance and Navigator travel insurance policies cover long trips, 15 months for Voyager insurance and 18 months for Navigator travel insurance.

It is increasingly popular these days, for people to seek work overseas, and it is important that they check their travel insurance to ensure that work is covered. Many holiday insurance policies will not cover claims that arise in the workplace. Both the Voyager holiday insurance and Navigator travel insurance policies cover work-related claims, provided the work is not heavy manual labour etc. Travel insurance will not cover heavy labour or employment that is clearly of a hazardous nature. It must also be noted that travel and holiday insurance will not cover work-related Personal Liability claims. These should be covered by the employer, who should have insurance in place to protect against such eventualities.
